This conversation has been edited and condensed. Blue Ivy is now officially a Grammy-award winning artist. Ahead of tonight’s 63rd annual Grammy Awards, a few categories were announced early-on before the ceremony, and the best music video category has gone to Beyoncé, her nine-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, and WizKiD for their song, “Brown Skin Girl.”
Last question: What’s one thing you love, and one thing you hope to see change, about country music? I love the storytelling and the honesty of country music; it hasn’t been there for a very long time, and I’ve really missed true storytelling. That is why I fell in love with this genre—a lot of it has been left out, and I want to see more people of color, more LGBTQ+ artists, because their dreams are just as important as everybody else’s. That’s what I want to see change.
The video, released in August last year as part of Beyoncé’s Black Is King visual album, features Blue Ivy on the track and in the video as well (it also features cameos from Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell, and many other stars).
